The Front Bottoms — 11/10
November 10, 2023 — The Front Bottoms, a band hailing from Woodcliff Lake, NJ, shared the stage with Boston-based group Slothrust, delivering a captivating performance on a cozy Friday night at the familiar Terminal 5 venue. As I entered, the crowd's electrifying energy washed over me, their cheers resonating through the venue.
Slothrust, the alt-rock opener from Boston, set the tone with a heavier sound that ignited cheers from the audience. Their performance was a lively injection of energy, each song resonating with a post-punk vibe, highlighted by powerful bass lines and impressive guitar solos. The drums added another layer to the experience, and I found myself enamored with yet another band.
The brief intermission between Slothrust and The Front Bottoms maintained the crowd's high energy. The classic anthem "Livin’ On A Prayer" by Bon Jovi filled the venue, with the crowd singing in unison—a heartwarming display of communal joy. As the song faded and the lights dimmed, signaling The Front Bottoms' arrival, anticipation filled the air.
Having photographed The Front Bottoms in the past, I can attest to their consistent ability to impress with dynamic light shows and commanding stage presence. The lighting and backdrop for this performance exceeded expectations. Glancing at the enthusiastic crowd, it was evident that the energy was palpable. With hands raised high, the audience displayed unwavering dedication and love for TFB, a sentiment I fully shared.
TFB seamlessly blended the acoustic and electric elements of their music, maintaining the purity of the acoustic sound while infusing it with the twang of electric instruments. The crowd enthusiastically sang along to the easily memorable lyrics, tinged with a hint of midwest emo. It was a night filled with heartfelt performances, and the connection between the band and their devoted audience was unmistakable.
